History

.
Cathy Conn Itz and Mark Itz own and operate McCall Creek Farms, a speciality cut flower and commercial vegetable operation in Blanco County, Texas. The floral and vegetable business is currently in it’s sixth year of production. Starting with only two rows of zinnias and sunflowers in a fallow hay field, the production presently encompasses approximately 20 acres of commercial field grown cut flowers and produce. In 2000, they decided to embrace their dream of operating a market on a portion of their property and include products of their own and that of their family and friends in various agriculture operations. McCall Creek Farms and McCall Creek Farms Market are located on the the Conn Ranch in Blanco County. The business’ name was conceived by recognizing the creek that flows through the Conn Ranch.

The Conn ranch originated from a land grant of 160 acres by the State of Texas in 1874, and has increased it’s size throughout the years. The ranch was inducted into the Texas Family Land Heritage Registry after being recognized at the Texas Family Land Heritage Program in 1998. The Texas Department of Agriculture recognizes families who have continuously lived on, worked, and actively managed productive land for 100 years or longer. The house that the family lives in was originally a one room house built by Cathy’s Great- Grandfather, J. Lee Conn. Cathy’s brother, John L. Conn, a farmer and rancher, operates his business on his half of the Conn Ranch.

Mark Itz hails from Fredericksburg. Mark’s Great-Great Grandfather, Karl Itz, came to Fredericksburg from Germany in 1847 and began farming in Gillespie County. Through the generations, Mark’s family has continued to prevail in agriculture participating in produce and peach production in Gillespie County. Mark’s father, Melvin Itz, owns and operates Itz Gardens, a specialty produce operation featuring peppers, tomatoes, and blackberries. One of Mark’s brother’s, Bruce Itz, owns and operates Itz’ Peaches & Pecans in Fredericksburg and Mark’s sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Keith Reeh, own and operate Hill Country Homestyle, a specialty canning business in Fredericksburg.
